Key Players: Krista SchlosserKrista Schlosser is the driving force behind the Creative Kids Museum. As Founding President, Krista took the idea of opening a children's museum in Calgary, engaged the right people and made her dream a reality! Krista has been involved in all aspects of the creation of the Museum including volunteer recruitment, marketing, program development and implementation, event management, fundraising and spokesperson. Since the Creative Kids Museum partnered with the TELUS World of Science in June 2005, Krista's involvement has become much more focused. Today, Krista is the Chair of the Executive and Fundraising Committees and an active member of the Calgary Science Centre and Creative Kids Museum Society's board. When she founded the Creative Kids Museum in 2000, Krista was in the midst of parenting two young children. Her daughter Taylor was four years old, and her son Jordan was one. Krista played constantly and came to the realization that play is the primary vehicle for children's learning. To encourage learning through play, Krista and her kids built castles out of boxes, performed dramas, made costumes, sewed puppets and painted on the fence. This was when her passion for creative learning was born and she became determined to develop for children's museum in Calgary. A former teacher, Krista founded the Creative Kids Museum because she believes that Calgary needs a learning space that values children and the arts. Calgary is growing and young families continue to move to our vibrant city. “By providing a space for young children, we are making a significant investment in the future of Calgary and empowering our youth to make positive choices.” explains Krista. |
