Why Calgary needs and deserves a Children's Museum

Calgary is a young, vibrant city and the number of young families is on the rise. According to Statistics Canada, in 2004 - 05, Calgary had the highest birth rate in Canada at 1.2%.*

The City of Calgary predicts a 24.8% rise in the population of children up to four years of age in the next four years.*

To meet the needs of Calgary's foremost growing demographic, the Creative Kids Museum will offer unique and sophisticated activities and programs that inspire, challenge and engage young people to become involved in the arts.

Why the partnership with the TELUS World of Science?

In June 2005, the Creative Kids Museum announced an exciting new partnership with the TELUS World of Science. These two organizations share a common vision of “hands-on” education and a dedication to engaging children in positive experiences that encourage lifelong learning.

Bringing the two organizations together in one location will offer families an experience second to none in Canada. The Creative Kids Museum will offer creative, visual and performing art components that will compliment an already stimulating science experience at the TELUS World of Science.

Together, the Creative Kids Museum and the TELUS World of Science foster creativity and inspire self-motivated learning by providing activities that build confidence in children, applaud their creativity and develop their skills. We serve children, their families and their educators through interactive activities in immersive environments.

Who is it for?

The Creative Kids Museum is for toddlers to young teens interested in exploring their world through the arts. Children will play alongside their families and be inspired through dynamic programs that will enrich their lives.

Why are we building today?

The Creative Kids Museum and TELUS World of Science will be moving to a site just north of the Calgary Zoo in 2010. Because of this, we are often asked why we're building a new facility now, instead of waiting until 2010. The answer is simple. We don't want another generation of kids to grow up without a children's museum in Calgary.

Today's children deserve this life enriching experience. The exhibits have been designed to be transferable to the new site. By beginning now, we have an incredible opportunity to test the exhibits and concepts of the Creative Kids Museum, listen to feedback and make improvements for the future Museum.
