Background

Selected as the City of Calgary's celebratory project for Alberta's Centennial, the Creative Kids Museum is scheduled to open in the fall of 2006 in a new structure being built in the staff parking lot.

How did it all begin? Krista Schlosser, Founding President of the Creative Kids Museum wanted to give kids a place to expand their minds. With a background in education, Krista knows the importance of teaching and learning in a variety of methods. After spending time at children's museums in Ontario, Krista knew there was a key opportunity to fill a void for young learners in Alberta and she began researching the possibility of opening one in Calgary.

Working with 11 founding members including teachers, business professionals, psychologists and artists, Krista looks back to the first coffee shop meeting when she initially presented her idea. “After that first meeting, we began two years of brainstorming to come up with a focus and criteria for the Creative Kids Museum. It's been a lot of exciting and fun work.”

Once the museum opens, work and research will continue to evaluate the exhibits based on children's responses. The Creative Kids Museum will evolve according to the needs of children.
